Filipino pole vault sensation, EJ Obiena, hosted an exciting meet and greet event on September 15, 2024 at Ayala Malls Manila Bay Activity Center.
300 lucky fans selected from over 5000 sign ups to meet EJ up close were treated to a treat. And while only a fraction of the winners could meet EJ up close, everyone was invited to watch and experience the event.
Packed with fun activities, Meet & Greet guests and mall-goers alike were treated to a fun day filled with EJ experiences such as the chance to hold his pole vault poles and a visual representation of EJ's personal record (6 meters) which reached the second floor of the activity center.
“A High Flying Hangout With EJ Obiena” was hosted by Migs Bustos and Riki Flo, the event started off with a performance by WSB All Stars.
Fellow elite athletes also dropped by for a panel discussion called "The Athlete's Huddle". Karate gold medalist Jamie Lim, Filipinas captain Hali Long and volleyball phenom Alyssa Valdez all took part in an intriguing and real chat on the state of sports in the country.
The event was also a fundraising effort for “EJ’s 6 - Meter Initiative”, which aims to raise the bar for future FIlipino athletes by raising funds for pole vaulting pits to be installed across the country.
EJ also shared in a mini press conference facilitated by Catch21 after the Meet and Greet about his goal for the event.
"We'll be able to donate three pits all over the Philippines," He added, "I'm not donating one in Manila anymore; we have enough here. At least equity-wise, I wanna do it in places where there's really not a lot of facilities. That would change, I think, the grander spectrum of things."
